GlaxoSmithKline - Dungarvan

GlaxoSmithKline Dungarvan Site

The Client

Employing more than 900 staff, GlaxoSmithKline’s Dungarvan site comprises two manufacturing facilities: the OTC (over the counter) facility producing the Panadol, Solpadeine and Beechams Flu Plus ranges, and OC (oral care) which manufactures products such as Poligrip, Polident and Corega. Shift patterns in OTC follow the continental model while the OC facility operates across three shifts – early, late and nights. A fleet of 19 forklift trucks across the two facilities are in operation between 3000 – 4000 hours annually.

The Problem

Without a dedicated system to monitor vehicle access, truck utilisation and shock patterns and responsibility, GSK was unable to plan driver training or monitor damage to racking and other site infrastructure with the effectiveness it desired.

The Solution

Davis Derby took time to understand the specific issues across the two facilities before recommending the Fleet Management Information System, supplemented by the shock, shock lockout and indication modules. Smart cards were also supplied to restrict driver access to specified vehicles and record logged-on and operational time.

The Results

The system enables GSK to monitor truck usage with great accuracy and identify racking damage and responsible drivers effectively. Reports are run as and when required and these are used to identify driver training needs.

Chosen by GSK primarily to prevent unauthorised access to lifting equipment, Davis Derby’s Fleet Management Information System is also expected to deliver considerable reductions in racking damage and related costs.

What The Client Said

“Apart from the obvious health and safety benefits, this system has improved driving standards across our two production facilities, dramatically reducing shock incidents. Where incidents do take place, we are now much better placed to deal with the training and personnel issues that arise from them.”  Brain Beatty, Projects Co-ordinator, GSK.
