Cadbury Trebor Bassett - Chirk
The Client
At Cadbury’s UK manufacturing plant in Chirk, North Wales, five crews operate a round-the-clock shift system. The company runs a fleet of 13 Toyota fork lift trucks, leased on six-year agreements based on operational usage of 2000 hours annually.
The Problem
In the seven months to December 2007, truck-related damage costs exceeded £4,500. Cadbury UK was looking for a significant reduction in this figure as well as a system that would help it meet its health and safety obligations.
The Solution
After carefully analysing traffic movements and the client’s shock incident record, Davis Derby supplied and fitted the Fleet Management Information System (FMIS), including the shock indication module to ten of the trucks. The remaining three vehicles and two lift platforms are scheduled for installation in the second phase of the project. Drivers were issued with SMART cards which allow access to the vehicles and record their logged-on and operational time.
The Results
FMIS has helped Cadbury reduce its truck-related damage costs and meet its health and safety regulations. Commissioned in December 2008, early indications are that the system is well on target to deliver on its promises.
What The Client Said
“Davis Derby showed excellent knowledge of the issues we faced in the manufacturing plant and offered a tailored solution very quickly. We have been very impressed with both the efficiency of the installation and its ease of use.”
